Heledd Fychan Joins British Red Cross Volunteers at the launch of a new dedicated emergency volunteer team in Rhondda Cynon Taf

On Saturday (11 November) Heledd Fychan Member of the Senedd for South Wales Central attended the launch of British Red Cross’ new dedicated volunteer team. Working in partnership with South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, they will provide support to people affected by crisis across Rhondda Cynon Taf.

British Red Cross volunteers will deploy at the request of the Fire and Rescue Service to attend callouts across Rhondda Cynon Taf and the surrounding areas, providing emotional and practical support to those affected. The team and vehicle - a Land Rover Defender - are based at Pontypridd fire station.

Speaking following the launch Heledd Fychan said:

“Residents and businesses across Rhondda Cynon Taf have experienced a number of emergency situation, including devastating flooding in recent years.

“The launch of this specialised team will bring a lot of comfort to communities who face a crisis or continue to be at risk of flooding, offering essential emotional support but also stands ready to provide the practical support that our communities desperately need.

“There is still a lot of work to do to address the risk of flooding in Rhondda Cynon Taf but having a team located in the heart of our community is a very welcome development. I would like to thank the British Red Cross and all their volunteers for making this possible.”
