Colleges Week

On Monday, I joined Jonathan Morgan and Rachel Edmonds‑Naish at Coleg y Cymoedd’s Nantgarw Campus to celebrate Colleges Week.
I loved visiting their Creative Industries faculty, joining costume makers as they put the finishing touches to their latest designs. I also had the chance to speak with law students about the next Senedd election, their aspirations for the future, and the importance of political participation.

Protecting our Rivers and Communities

It was great to be at the WWF Cymru, Wildlife Trust Wales, Afonydd Cymru and Soil Association roundtable at the Plaid Cymru Conference to discuss solutions to freshwater pollution across Wales and protecting communities from flooding.
Climate change provides a real and present danger, to so many communities, not least the residents of Clydach Terrace in my region as the first climate refugees in the UK.
Wales needs action now, with proactive investment, including nature-based solutions and collaboration across sectors, but involving people first and foremost in the solutions with an individual approach from river to river.

The Power of Sport

I had an inspiring panel discussion with the Football Association of Wales on the Conference stage earlier about investment in football and the resources needed not only to improve access to the sport but also the wellbeing and resilience that come from it for our communities, including better health, education, and economic growth.
Sport can be transformative, but investment is needed in facilities in every community so that everyone, from all backgrounds and ages, have access to the sport of their choice and the real wellbeing benefits that come from it.

MND Society Manifesto Launch

It was a pleasure to attend the launch of the MND Society’s Manifesto for Wales today in Cardiff.

Their Manifesto is very clear in what it’s asking of the Welsh Government, the NHS and Local Government to undertake to ensure equitable service provision across Wales — including timely and appropriate adapted housing; adequate financial support for carers; and championing high‑quality, collaborative research.

Surfers Against Sewage

It was a pleasure to meet with Amber Keegan and campaigners from Surfers Against Sewage at the Senedd this week for the launch of their Senedd manifesto and to chat about long term solutions for water quality, promoting public health and wellbeing and addressing sewage discharge.

I’m acutely aware of the impact that waste and sewage pollution has in my own region, especially in times of flooding.

Stiwdio 37

It was great to catch-up with Ruth and Gareth at Stiwdio 37 today, and hear about what they’ve been up to since last time I visited.
We also discussed some of the challenges that third sector organisations are facing, as well as the barriers people with additional learning needs and autism face in accessing work.

The Future of the South Wales Metro

Last week I had the chance to question the Welsh Government on the discussions it has had with the UK Government to secure the right level of investment to take the vision for the south Wales metro further and properly connect communities from valley to valley.
I look forward to scrutinising the plan for rail to be published by the industry next week, that will contain a pipeline of enhancements, including how the south-east Wales metro will be expanded in the years to come, to ensure that they maximises its potential to connect communities and the economic and social benefits that would bring.

Perthcelyn Surgery & Further Help

A huge thank you to everyone that came along to my surgery at Perthcelyn Community Centre earlier this week.

It was a chance for me to meet with members of the community, and hear directly about the issues that matter to them — such as school transport , lack of support for children with additional learning needs, and housing problems.

My team and I are always happy to meet anyone who has an issue , and discuss how best we can support them in receiving the help to which they are entitled. So if you feel we maybe able to help, please contact my office via [email protected] or 01443 853214.

Future of Palliative Care in Cwm Taf Bro Morgannwg

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board has today launched a 7 week public consultation on the future of their Specialist Palliative Care (SPC) and end of life services for adults.
One of the options being considered is the closure of the eight bed SPC ward at Ysbyty Cwm Cynon, Mountain Ash, something which I know is deeply concerning for many constituents.
