Heledd Fychan MS has called for an urgent oral statement from the Cabinet Secretary for Housing and Local Government regarding the presence of reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) in homes in Hirwaun. It has been a year since RAAC was identified in many homes in the area, including 17 properties bought under the right-to-buy legislation.
"On Monday night, I met with the impacted homeowners alongside the local councillors Karen Morgan and Adam Rogers. It's clear that many are still traumatised and uncertain about the future. Elderly residents, in particular, can't afford the necessary repairs," said Heledd Fychan MS.
Following her question, Ms Fychan added, "We were promised a four-nation approach, yet the Scottish Government decided to go it alone and provide more support. Why hasn’t the Welsh Government decided to do the same? Homeowners shouldn’t have to wait this long to feel safe in their homes. I will continue to support the residents where I can and push for greater support to be made available."
The Welsh Government acknowledged the concerns raised by Heledd Fychan MS and will bring this to attention the Cabinet Secretary for Housing and Local Government.
