Terms of Reference of the Independent flood Review announced

Monday (18.6.22) the Welsh Government announced the terms of reference for the independent flood review.

Secured as part of the Plaid Cymru co-operation agreement, this review is an important first step in securing the answers and Justice for everyone that was affected by the flooding that occurred in February 2020, as well as across Wales in 2020 and 2021.

The independent review will be led by one of the UK’s leading criminal barristers Professor Elwen Evans QC and will look at all available evidence provided from investigations carried out by local authorities and Natural resources Wales. There will also be an opportunity for the public to contribute to the review by submitting evidence through their local Senedd Members.

When I was elected, I promised to be a strong voice for communities at risk of Flooding and with the support of those communities we have been able to secure an independent flood review.

It’s been a long two years of campaigning but thanks to everyone who has campaigned with me we have achieved this important first step together and I hope the review will allow the government and national flood agencies to learn from past events and improve their approach to tackling the flood risk.

I will continue to make sure your voices and experiences are at the heart of the review process. Many of you have already shared evidence with me, but if you haven’t, I will be announcing soon how I will be collecting additional evidence to submit to the review.
