Evidence for the independent review of local government section 19 and Natural Resources Wales reports into extreme flooding

South Wales Central consists of communities within the boundaries of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan Local Authorities. Though flooding is a regular occurrence in many communities within the region, the flooding that occurred in February 2020 as a result of Storm Dennis was undoubtedly the worst to happen for decades with 1,498 homes and businesses flooded in Rhondda Cynon Taf alone. 21 properties were flooded in Cardiff at the same time. Some of the same homes were further flooded in June 2020. In December 2020, 18 properties in Sully were affected by surface water flooding, and 98 properties in Dinas Powys.

Heledd Fychan MS welcomes expansion of free school meals

Plaid Cymru MS Heledd Fychan has welcomed today’s announcement that £70 million in funding will support the next stage in the expansion of free school meals in all primary schools in Wales, thanks to the Co-operation Agreement between Plaid and the Welsh Government.

Over £14 million secured for flood and coastal erosion risk management programmes in South Wales Central

"A step back for Welsh Medium Education" - Heledd Fychan MS calls on the Minister for Education to intervene in a decision to open a new English medium school in Glyncoch, Rhondda Cynon Taf

Following the announcement that a new English medium school in Glyncoch will be one of three new net zero carbon schools to be funded by the Welsh Government, the Member of the Senedd for South Wales Central, Heledd Fychan, has written to the Minister for Education and the Welsh Language and ask him to reconsider the school's medium of language as a matter of urgency.

Heledd Fychan Member of the Senedd for South Wales Central warns of collapse of NHS dental services

Heledd Fychan, Plaid Cymru Member of the Senedd for South Wales Central, has today raised concerns over the state of NHS dental services across the region following the release of the British Dental Association's survey results. The survey showed that over 80% of high street dentists are struggling to meet the Welsh Government's unrealistic targets to see existing patients, and that over 60% are struggling to meet demand to take on new patients. Heledd Fychan MS warns that this situation, combined with the increased demand for services following the pandemic, could lead to the collapse of dental services across the region and deny access to NHS dental care for all that need it.
