Committee Visit to north Wales

Last week, I visited north Wales with the Culture, Communications, Welsh Language, Sport and International Relations Committee.

We went to a variety of places, many of which I was familiar with from my previous job with Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales such as Ty Pawb, Theatr Clwyd and of course the National Slate Museum.

Flood advice booklet for residents living in South Wales Central

 

In recent years, communities across the region have suffered flooding and continue to be at risk. I’ve developed this booklet with some practical information, in case the worse were to happen again.  

I very much hope that you will never have to use this guide. But if your home is at risk, this guide sets out steps you can take before, during and following a flood.  

While it may not be possible to prepare for every eventuality, taking the steps laid out in this guide will hopefully make it easier to plan and react to a flood if the worse were to happen.

In February, we were able team up with Citizen’s advice to hold our first joint surgery. February focused on Energy advice, but each month will have a new theme.

Pontypridd Town Development Survey Results

In November 2021, many constituents contacted my office about what they would like to see happen to the old Bingo Hall site and the Old Marks & Spencers and Dorothy Perkins sites in Pontypridd Town Centre. 75 participated in a subsequent consultation I ran, by completing a survey online as well as contacting the office directly. Here are the results from the responses collected from residents who live, work and visit Pontypridd.

Cost of living - Summit report

On 17 February 2022, Heldd Fychan Plaid Cymru Senedd Member for South Wales Central invited local organisations that offer support to people facing crisis to come together to discuss how we can work together to ensure that everyone receives the help available to them.

In attendance were representatives from Citizens Advice, Taff Ely and Pontypridd Foodbank, Age Connects Morgannwg, People’s Assembly Wales, Little Lounge, child Poverty action, Carmel Community Clothing, YRP and Cardiff Council.

Plaid Cymru Secures Investment in Flood Protection Measures

Through to the Co-Operation agreement between Plaid Cymru and Welsh Government, a total of £214m is being invested in flood protection for communities across Wales. 

Funding will be spent over a period of three years, with over £16.2m allocated to specifically address flooding in RCT, Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.
