Heledd Fychan MS announces Christmas e-card competition winners
With the climate and nature emergency an important issue for everyone, I wanted to encourage primary school children across the region of South Wales Central to design a Christmas e-card or decoration made from recycled materials.

During the pandemic, the use of food banks significantly increased, with the Trussell Trust reporting an increase of 11% in demand between April and September 2021 compared to the same period in 2019. This figure is estimated to be much higher as it doesn’t include independently run food banks here in wales.
This growing trend is worrying and evidence that current policies don’t work with almost a quarter of people in Wales living in poverty.

Heledd Fychan MS visited Pontypridd Delivery Office to pass on Season’s Greetings to the Royal Mail team who are working hard to deliver cards and gifts in time for Christmas. It was also an opportunity to thank postal workers for all their hard working during the pandemic.
Heledd Fychan MS meets Young Climate Activists at the Senedd
Last month Heledd Fychan MS met with a group of 20 highschool pupils from y Pant and Fitzalan High School as part of their visit to the Senedd with Surfers Against Sewage.
Pupils had the opportunity to quiz Heledd and Julie James MS (Minister for Climate Change) on important issues such as the environment, plastic pollution and their experiences at COP26.

Plaid Cymru MS and RCT Councillor for Pontypridd Town Heledd Fychan has today launched a consultation to ask residents, businesses and visitors to Pontypridd to share their views on what they’d like to see happen to the currently vacant buildings in the town centre

Heledd Fychan MS, Plaid Cymru’s spokesperson for International Affairs, talks about the People’s Vaccine and its role in the global fight against COVID-19.
I can still remember how I felt when the news first reached me that scientists working in labs around the world had created the first successful vaccine against COVID-19.
It’s fitting that the first vaccine to be approved – Pfizer BioNTech – was the result of international collaboration, and that at its launch, the CEO of BioNTech remarked “This is a global pandemic, which requires a global effort.”
COP26 - Cities, Regions and the Built Environment Day
On 11 November, I attended COP26 in Glasgow where the focus was on Cities, Regions and the Built Environment.
The sessions I attended had a lot of great ideas regarding flood prevention and management, with communities taking a lead supported by Governments rather than left out of decision making. I also attended an interesting session about how music and the arts can help inspire people to take action in response to the climate emergency.

Covid Passes update
When Covid passes came into force in October I was contacted by many constituents across the region who shared their concerns that guidance wasn’t clear enough for those who were exempt from having the vaccine and taking Lateral Flow tests due to medical conditions.
